Welcome to the home port of the Get~Aweigh, a 2010 Ranger Tug R-25.
Grand Lake St Marys - Summer 2013
We're Jeff and Deb Marcum and our Ranger Tug is actually the fifth boat we've had with that name. And we think this will likely be the last. Our previous Get~Aweigh's included a 33 foot Doral, Two Searay's, a 28 foot Sundancer and a 40 foot Sundancer, and a 25 foot C-Dory with twin Honda 90 Outboards.
We've cruised the Ohio River from West Virginia to the Cumberland River, Kentucky Lake, Lake Cumberland, and the Michigan lakes of Burt, Mullet, and Crooked. We've made two trips to Georgian Bay and the North Channel from home ports on Lake Erie, cruising up the west coast of the Bruce Peninsula and coming back down the Michigan Coast from the North Channel.
Although we live on a lake in West Central Ohio, we have kept the Get~Aweigh in slips on Lake Erie but found commuting to the boat more time consuming than we liked. So now, we opt to dock the Get~Aweigh in a slip at our house and trailer it to other places when the urge strikes.
This website is an opportunity to share information and experiences we've gathered over our years of cruising with others who might be interested in similar boating adventures.
We also want to share with boaters with disabilities things we've found that make boating possible even with some limitations. Deb has lived with Multiple Sclerosis since 1985 and while we travel with a wheelchair and have to incorporate that fact into our cruise planning, we've found that travelling by personal boat is a perfect way to go when other modes of vacation travel might be too difficult.
